Day 7 After an off day the boys got back to baseball and played a very good Hawaii team, losing 6-0. Congratulations to Zach Marendt for being named LRJD's MVP of the game.After the game the boys were all given Cal Ripken autographed baseballs. Then they hustled down to Camden Yards to watch the Baltimore Orioles play the Boston Red Sox. Even though they had a tough time in the games the boys had a great time here at the World Series. They look forward to sharing with their LRJD family all of their experiences. *********************************** Day 5 The team started the day with a practice and team lunch on the patio before taking on Washington, the Regional Champion from the Pacific Northwest. In a see saw game the LRJD team fought hard before coming up short, losing 8-5. Blake Schluterman continued his strong play in the World Series by being named the MVP of the game for LRJD, going 2 for 3, scoring 2 runs and having 2 RBIs. The team will have an off day tomorrow before finishing pool play against Hawaii on Wednesday, August 15th at 2:30 pm CST. ********************************** Day 4 The team started the day with a devotional and then ate a delicious brunch at a local restaurant that prepared a special menu just for us - Maryland crab cakes are delicious!! In game action the boys ran into a buzz saw as the Maryland state champion played a very good game, winning 7-0. Trey Harris continued his outstanding play and was named MVP of the game for LRJD. The boys return to action against the champions of the Pacific Northwest region tomorrow at 5 pm CST. ************************************ Day 3 The boys started the day by joining the parade through town and having a picnic with all of the teams. As play started, many of the boys got autographs from Cal Ripken Jr. The boys were excited to start the game and it showed as they jumped out to 2-0 lead. The team from Connecticut tied it at 2 until the 4th when LRJD scored 3 to make it a 5-2 lead. In the bottom half of the 4th the team from New England scored 5 to take a lead and held on to win 8-5. The boys are disappointed but are hopeful they will bounce back tomorrow. Connor Cline was named our MVP by going 3 for 3 and having 3 RBI. LRJD next plays at 7 central on Sunday, August 12th against Maryland. ****************************** Day 2 Day 2 for the LRJD team meant the opening ceremony along with skills competitions for the boys for infield, outfield, home runs and running. Special congratulations to Nathan Page for finishing 2nd in the race around the bases which they called the Golden Spikes competition, losing to a kid from the Dominican Republic by a few hundredths of a second. The boys are really anxious to play their first game and to get going!! They were making lots of friends, though, especially from Team Canada. ******************************* Day 1 Day 1 started for the boys with a meeting at Loftis Field at 5:30 am where they were picked up by limousine for their ride to the airport. After traveling through Chicago they were picked up at BWI airport by Cal Ripken representatives and taken to Under Armour headquarters where they were given their uniforms as the representatives of the Southwest Region. The boys (and parents) are very excited to be here and are very appreciative of the support we have received from Little Rock and the JD community. |
